The Swiss government’s endorsement of a multi-billion dollar deal
between energy giant EGL and UN-sanctioned Iran drew harsh and vocal criticism from Israel and the US administration. Highly disputed was also the Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy Rey’s decision to wear a white veil at official meetings with the leadership of the Islamic Republic.
