In March, Turkey's chief prosecutor filed a petition calling for the ruling party to be banned on the grounds of "anti-secular activities". Such move was prompted by AKP's attempts to ease the ban on Islamic headscarves at universities and government institutions. The constitutional court unanimously decided to hear the case.
