Weast was in Geneva to film an interview al-Jazeera cameraman and former Guantanamo detainee Sami al-Hajj granted Amnesty International. Sami al-Hajj was relased in May 2008 after 6 ½ years in detention without a trial. He was in Switzerland on the invitation of the Alkarama Centre for Human Rights and his visit coincided with the UN Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Sami al-Hajj also held a public conference to discuss his experience and raise awareness on the issue of human rights and violations of fundamental freedoms. |
