On 8th August, 2008 a two-week conflict erupts between Russia and Georgia over support for South Ossetian separatists, then engaged in fierce fightings with the Georgian army. Moscow’s air raids and ground attacks inflict heavy damage to Tbilisi’s military infrastructure. The exact number of casualties is still disputed. According to UNHCR, over 100000 civilians have been displaced by the violence. Most headed to Tbilisi, where the authorities were unable to cope with the sudden influx and ensuing humanitarian crisis. Weast was in Georgia reporting from frontline and heavily-bombed Gori and gathering first-hand witness accounts from refugees. This video is with italian voice-over and quotes in original language.
