Within the framework of the Locarno International Film Festival, "Gaza: liberi di morire" ("Gaza: free to die") will be soon screened for a second time at Monte Verità (Ascona). The movie was last shown in Lugano on Friday 5th June, 2009 on the occasion of the International Forum for Human Rights "Veri diritti" (www.veridiritti.org). The movie's director, Gianluca Grossi attended that event. Another screening took place on the 12th June, during the "Hope. Una Striscia di speranza" Festival in Stabio (South of Switzerland). Our reporter's documentary was premiered on 4th April in Ascona, Switzerland. In his feature, filmed during and after the siege of Gaza in December-January 2008, Gianluca Grossi walks through the conflict's debris, picking up along the way what is left of shattered lives, bodies, hopes, and pain. A collection of stories from a wounded land, where ‘time has become a persecution’ and where victims’ voices barely raise above the constant noise of war. The feature was originally commissionned by the Foundation Monte Verità (www.monteverita.org), and its screening took place within the frame of the Human Rights Forum. A panel discussion ensued, which also saw the participation of a representative from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. This is only part of the documentary. Original feature available on demand. or more information on the screening please visit www.monteverita.org.
