About 35 years ago Khazan Gul was a student in Germany, where he learned mathematics, physics and the German language. Back in Afghanistan, he became Director of Education in Khost's regional council. Today, with the money he privately collects in Germany, he builds boys and girls' schools. Mr Gul believes that only through education and culture will Afghanistan be saved and freed. Khazan Gul survived being shot at in the middle of the road in Khost. His driver died in the same attack. Weast met Mr Gul as he was being taken to the trauma hospital at Forward Operating Base Salerno, Eastern Afghanistan, where doctors saved his life. Khazan Gul is not scared: he is determined to carry on with his mission. "I decided to fight until the end, but not with weapons, with education", he told us. First broadcast in German by Swiss National TV's magazine '10vor10'. Available on demand.
