The children of Kabul are the silent and unconspicuos victims of a thirty-year long conflict. In the thousands, they swarm the capital’s streets and corners selling chewing gum, cleaning car windows, begging.
Many of them have been orphaned by the war, others have been abandoned.
Some are too poor to live with their destitute families. In countless cases, they are supporting a widowed mother. Left to fend for themselves along busy and dirty roads, they might fall prey to criminals and smuggling gangs. In its latest report from Afghanistan, Weast meets people who are struggling to provide these young Afghans with a better future.
Among them is well-known singer Farhad Darya, who recently launched an educational project for street children. Gianluca Grossi reports.
