In its special edition for the Venice International Film Festival 2009, mymovies.it wrote: ‘A documentary full of hope. Freelance journalist Gianluca Grossi, who has been reporting from the Middle East for years, filmed a feature in Gaza proving how this area has today been turned into a huge open air prison camp; a similar concern was expressed by former US President Jimmy Carter in his book ‘Palestine. Peace not Apartheid’, whose promotional campaign was chronicled in director Jonathan Demme’s ‘Man From Plains’. Within the frame of its cultural programme and above all of its Human Rights Forum, the Monte Verità Foundation (www.monteverità.org) in Ascona (Switzerland) is particularly active on the front of information and news, regularly engaging in discussions on and denounciations of conflicts and human rights violations. But the Foundation went beyond showing this documentary; it has in fact launched an appeal to help Hussam, a 28-year-old Palestinian firefighter who was hit by Israely army fire while looking for the wounded in a building in Gaza. Parts of the man’s leg had to be amputated bit by bit and he now needs a prosthesis which could only be applied abroad. The Canton of Ticino, thanks to popular response and to the fundraising campaign which was launched in July, will thus become a place where hope turns into reality. And this, partly thanks to cinema.' The entire article can be read in Italian on http://www.mymovies.it/cinemanews/2009/16266/.
