A pilgrimage to the Holy Land can turn into a life-changing experience.
But on some tourists and faithful alike, the spiritual depth and the
symbolic significance of historical and religious landmarks can have
unexpected and overwhelming effects, to the point of preventing them from
departing the city at all. In medical terms, it's referred to as the
"Jerusalem Syndrome". This condition is so serious that a Special Unit has
been set-up with psychologists and psychiatrists trying to tackle the
problem. Weast Productions' Gianluca Grossi walks Jerusalem's alleys in
search of evidence. This reports was broadcast on Christmas Day by Swiss
National TV. |
